Mix peaches with 1 cup sugar and cinnamon. Melt butter in a 2½ to 3 quart casserole dish in 350 F oven. Mix remaining ½ cup sugar with flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk and mix until blended. Pour batter over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon peaches over top of batter and do not stir. Bake for 1 hour.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
