This is a set of photographs of an unknown tool.

The only making is "PATENTED NOV 1850"

The handles appear to be fruitwood.  One handle has a bolt in it, the other a nut. There is a cylindrical metal sleeve between the two handles.

The anchor shaped cutter goes into the sleeve, and has a hole through whch the bolt passes.  When the handles are twisted they tighten and hold the cutter securely.

The fence is, I feel sure a later addition as the right handle has been ligtly shaved to make the fence a firm fit.

It does a pretty darn good job of cutting a groove in a ash plank.!

Any ideas as to maker, name use?
